Namibia Self Drive 2012

THE NAMIBIAN PHOTO SAFARI FOR 2012  – JULY 2012

This photo safari is fully booked and places will only become available in the event of cancellations. Should you wish to register your interest in a vacany, please click on this link. Thank You: Waiting List

You are invited to join a small Australian group to photograph the best landscapes and wildlife in one of the most surprising countries in Africa – Namibia.

The search for a truly rewarding adventure ends when you discover Namibia. It is a country of surreal raw beauty, pristine wilderness and abundant wildlife. For those who chose to frame the world through a lens, Namibia’s optimum light, spectacular landscapes and intriguing diversity of animals and people, opens up a wide world of photographic possibilities.

This photo safari is different to others you will find for Namiba. Participants will have the freedom of self-driving 4WD vehicles – Toyota Land Cruisers or similar.

The choice to have only two photographers per vehicle, is yours entirely – an unheard of luxury on other photo safaris.

Gaining almost private access to exclusive locations in Namibia, is among the top five destinations for photographers worldwide.

For this photo safari Iconic Images International will again work in partnership with the South African-based company C4 Images & Safaris.

The founder of C4, Shem Compion will co-lead this safari with Jay Collier, Canon Australia and myself.

You will have three, professional, dedicated nature/wildlife photographers to assist you capture some of Namibia’s iconic subjects.

HIGHLIGHTS OF PHOTO SAFARI & A NOTE ON BEGINNERS

The best locations at the best time of the year, for the best photography:

  • Quiver tree forests – highly photogenic and magical in the golden hours
  • Ghost town of Kolmanskop – its photographically challenging abandoned building
  • Dune landscapes of Sossusvlei – with an option to photograph them from the air in a balloon or fixed wing aircraft
  • Pre-dawn Dead Vlei – a near mystical experience
  • Swakoupmund – its German architecture will surprise and delight you
  • One Day “Wildlife Photography” Workshop - in preparation for our time in Etosha National Park
  • Skeleton Coast – its ship wrecks are eerie; its seal colony unexpected in this harsh landscape
  • Remote Damaraland – where time seems to stop and the panoramic landscapes seem to go on forever; the top image was taken from Grootberg Lodge, at sunrise on my last visit
  • Himba people- and their still intact culture
  • Etosha National Park – six action-packed days in one of the best game reserves in Africa
  • AfriCat Foundation – experience first hand its unique conservation work with large cats
  • Africa’s wild dogs – now an endangered species

Beginners are most welcome. They will be encouraged to try out different techniques and learn not only from the safari leaders, but from other experienced photographers in the group. All we ask of “first timers” to Africa and those with limited know-how in photographing wildlife is their patience. We teach beginners the value of patience in the field – they will be rewarded with a new concept of nature and some great images.

THIS SAFARI IS CONFINED TO A MAXIMUM OF TEN PARTICIPANTS, EXCLUSIVE OF TOUR LEADERS.
